Slobodan Skakich

January 2019

It is with great sadness that the Bankes Charity Cup Football Competition Committee have to announce the passing of our good friend and colleague Slobodan Skakich, more widely and affectionately known as SKA, who passed away on the 9 January 2019, after a prolonged and spirited battle with cancer.

Ska was well known throughout Dorset football both on and off the pitch. He has been a Dorset registered referee for over 20 years, served on the DCFA Council since 2001, was Sunday referees appointment Secretary, was the League and Bankes Welfare officer, not to mention our outgoing Chairman.

Ska was our driving force in trying to raise the profile of the Bankes Charity Cup Competition and, once again, make it an integral part of all local Dorset Football Clubs fixture lists. And, during his tenure as our Chairman, he has certainly taken great strides towards achieving this. His vision to reinvent the competition format to run as a league system has rejuvenated it and the number of entries has increased year on year as a result. This is his legacy and we promise to continue the hard work he has started to provide us with a competition that is now 'fit for purpose' in today's modern game.

Ska was one of lifes few real gentlemen and his passing has left a huge hole in all our hearts which will be impossible to fill but the memory of his smile, his gentle nature, and his laughter may help to provide some comfort in these sad times.

It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to have known Ska and on behalf of the Bankes Charity Cup Competition, we would like to thank him for his tireless efforts over the years and offer our condolences to his wonderful wife Linda and their family, together with his many friends at this difficult time.

Ska's funeral took place a Full Broadstone United Reformed Church, Blandford Road on Thursday 24th January and afterward at the Royal British Legion Corfe Mullen.

The family has asked for No Flowers and that donations are to be split between Cancer Research U.K. and the Banke ’s Charity Cup Football Competition. This can be arranged through Nicholas O'Hara Funeral Directors.
